Declaration of the CP: Word Verification

I hereby proclaim that everyone should remove Word Verification from their blog comments section. I am over it.

Love,
CP

I just removed mine. I feel so much freer now.

Grant Miller Media has never had it and never will. Congratulations, Mr. Punchman!

Melinda June said...

it stops spam comments. I prefer it.

The last time I removed it I ended up with 58 spam comments that were hidden throughout my archives (that's before blogger told you which post the comment was on).
I was way too anal-retentive to leave them there. It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to remove them all. :-P

I was tempted to leave the giant erect penis avatars comments but I didn't want to distract my readers. I mean, what would you rather stare at?
Ginat erect shaved cock
or
Eclairs

um...maybe you shouldn't answer that.
:-S

Coaster Punchman said...

How about an eclair in the shape of a giant erect cock, Jin?

The rest of ya, who cares about a little spam commenting especially if it's in the archives?

Coaster Punchman said...

Oh and Grant, thank you for keeping your corner of Blogger word verification free. How do you deal with all the porn spam you surely must get?

Moderator said...

I do get porn spam. I recommend switching you blogger Email comment alert on. Then you can go back and find the spam comments. If you're motivated. I'm not always motivated, unfortunately.

Done!

Jenny Jenny Flannery said...

I'm with you, on this one, CP.

chelene said...

Maybe. Probably not. But I feel your pain.

Coaster Punchman said...

Thanks, Grizz & Flannery. Chelene, we'll give you a pass this time but damn! WV gets more & more annoying.

Tanya Espanya said...

I have only about 11 people that come to my blog so I removed the verification a while back...I'm just not that popular to get spam...I do get it at my regular email address though...and now my mortgage and penis are huge!

Eebie said...

Tanya, LOL, truthfully it was the mortgage bit that got me rolling.

Splotchy said...

Since I am patterning my life after CP, I have removed word verification from my blog as well.

I will be in NYC in a few days to begin my life anew. Please have my room ready.

Coaster Punchman said...

Tanya, now that I go there you have 12.

Eebie, welcome back! Where have you been?

That's great, Splotchy. I'll have your dog collar ready. You do windows too, don't you?

Dale said...

I was thinking about this very issue a few days ago. No.

Coaster Punchman said...

Now Dale, be reasonable. You already make us wait for our own comments to appear; isn't that torture enough?

Dino said...

i had left mine off for the longest time but then got spammed again I may try without again

Coaster Punchman said...

I've had mine off for over half a day now and not one spam comment yet. If and when I do get them, I plan to treat them like old friends.

Dale said...

Maybe I was too hasty. I hate them myself. You're not a lawyer are you. I'll give it a go if only to appear reasonable.

HOT PRON NOW!

Enhance pennile girth noww.

(See what happens when you unlock the front gate? Hee hee.)

Tanya Espanya said...

Hot pron! Sounds like a typo from a Chinese food menu. (prawn?)

Thanks, now I'm hungry.

Melinda June said...

shit. Bella Rossa stole my joke.

Coaster Punchman said...

Was the offer for cheep Viagra directed at Tanya or Dale?

You're just hungry because you're still pregnant, Tanya. It will get better.

I steal ALL my jokes. You know that.

GrizzBabe said...

Sorry, CP. I had to turn word verfication back on. Got spammed already.

Megan said...

I disabled mine months ago after a similar epiphany. I think I've gotten one spam comment since then, which I can live with.

Melinda June said...

Megan, that's nice of you not to count CP's comments as spam.

Coaster Punchman said...

Funny, I have not been spammed yet. Hey all, it helps to avoid spam if you regularly clean out your cookies & cache.

Good job Megan. Make friends with your spam.

Min, that's exactly the kind of cheap crack I'd expect from a Jordin lover.

Johnny Yen said...

You first. Oh, you did already? Damn.

Katie Schwartz said...

you're right! I'm doing it. thanks for the wake up call.

ps: look at you, so jesus right now, leading your pack of sheep. you bring a tear to my eye and joy to my heart.

Dale said...

Is the Canadiyen a reference to Johnny Yen's trip to Toronto?

Tanya, you can have my viagra you limp dicked bastard.

Coaster Punchman said...

C'mon Johnny, everyone's doing it. Don't you want to be cool?

You know Katie, I am actually surprised by the following I've received from this. I think the word verification is like when you have the car radio on a really loud screeching station and you don't realize how much it's irritating you until you decide to turn it off.

Careful Dale, you're about to get spammed. Family blog.

Jenny Jenny Flannery said...

You could also turn off the option of commenting anonymously...then cowards can't post either.

deadspot said...

I always take so long to write my pithy comments that I have to do it twice. Pithy? Pissy? One of the two. Take your pick.

Anyhoo... by the time I finish typing what I want to say, change my mind about what I want to say, and type what I really wanted to say, the gibberish has gone stale and I have to enter a whole new piece of gibberish before it sticks.

...and then sometimes I get the urge to type something else in the time it took for the comments page to reload and I have to start the whole process over again.

I guess what I meant to say was "thanks."

BeckEye said...

Some of the word verification words are funny though.

I hate the spam as well. And I won't do comment moderation, because I would feel like people were thinking that I'm censoring the comments that I don't like.

I have all kinds of excuses for keeping word verification.

Hate those damn things. I've had mine off for months and only had to delete 3 spams.

I don't get any comments on my blog so the spam is a welcome addition. It makes me feel like someone out there cares, even if they do want to enlarge my penis.

(I think Flannery is secretly putting the penis adds up but I can't be sure. I think she is trying to tell me something.)
