CPW Confessional: All My Children

Both Old Lady and Gizmorox have been blogging about soap operas lately, which reminds me that I have a confession to make.

When I was a kid I got addicted to All My Children, but I was embarassed to admit it to anyone. During the summers I would watch it every day at noon, but I would have to sit really close to the TV so that I could turn the channel quickly if I heard somone coming into the room. Made it hard to follow the story sometimes.

I outgrew my embarassment about liking All My Children by the time I graduated from high school, but today I'm embarassed about my prior embarassment.

How screwy is that?

I have watched The Bold and The Beautifull since I was 12 (thats when east and west germany was united and we got some west german TV channels)I still watch it today now I tape it all week and watch it in one setting which allows me to fast forward through commercials

Very embarassing. And now you're blogging about it. How will you ever break the cycle of shame?

Just think: Those who randomly read you now know your secret. Boring Midwesterners who live with their mummies and write about "Project Runway" are giggling about you. Of course, they're still living with mummy, so ............

I see you've been over to Martha recently, Beth!

Katy, didn't know you were from East Germany originally.

Dale, I live for my shame. I wouldn't be the same without it.

I know a surprising amount about "The Young And The Restless."

Would that be "surprising" or "alarming"?

Man, when I was trapped in a little room and forced to watch ABC soaps as a "job" All My Children was the worst. Maybe that's what made it so entertaining. Personally, I liked "Port Charles" for the day and a half it was on, because it took ridiculous to a whole new level and introduced vampires and time travel.

Wow, a job where you were forced to watch AMC?

ABC, which is nowhere near as fun. Four hours of soaps a day can nearly kill a person.

Wow, what city was that in? And by AMC I meant "All My Children" - I didn't think you were talking about "American Movie Classics," unless they changed their format without telling me, bastards....

I love how "old" movies on AMC are now from the 80s and early 90s....

I too have lost a youthful summer to AMC, and as a result have always felt an irrational fondness for Kelly Ripa.
